Failed to Received OCBC and DBS SMS OTP on 10 Nov 2014

Yesterday 10 Nov 2014, I was doing internet banking at 945pm. To my amaze that I am not able to receive both bank, OCBC and DBS SMS OTP. The SMS OTP was delayed till 11 Nov 0848hr then send to my handphone.

This had made me wonder
1) are both bank using the same OTP SMS provider ?or
2) are both bank using same telco provider?
3) why only 848hr then I receive the SMS? Is it at 8am (working hour) then they discover the system fault?

I have tried to use my own handphone to send SMS to my phone and able to receive the message.

Another worry is that the technical fault in the system was not discovered early to resolve.
Is the alert system in the system not robust enough that it is not able to inform the system administrator? Or the alert system and the SMS system are using the same gateway and hence the technical support unable to receive the faulty message? The contingency plan in the internet banking will need to be enhanced and the downtime of the system for almost 12 hours is not acceptable.

Worm in Raw Fish

Saturday morning, my wife and I went to wet market to buy fresh fish. Before noon, my wife will wash the fish and do the preparation for the lunch. As usual after the washing I will pour wine into the fish to remove the fish smell and went back to my room. My wife will later steam the fish. the moment I stepped into my room, my wife started screaming and I went back kitchen to find out what happening. She pointed at the fish and said worm. This is also the first time I saw worm crawling out of the fish. I capture the scene into my phone and started to search on the net to find out. According to the internet, this shown the fish is fresh. If the fish is frosen, the worm or parasite or Anisakis will not be able to survive.

How a Quarrel Started in the Bus

There are 2 bus card reader, one in left and one in the right, in the front entrance of the Singapore Bus.



The entrance of the bus able to accommodate 2 passengers to board onto the bus at the same time. Naturally passenger near to the left door will used the left card reader to tap on their card and the right one for the right boarding passenger.

Last week I encountered one incident that I nearly quarrel with one lady. I board onto the bus using the right side and one Indian lady board onto the bus using the left side. When I wanted to tap my card on the left side card reader, the Indian lady just cut into my side and also tap on the same card reader. This causes the card reader reading error as it detected 2 cards. The Indian lady started to say that why am i so "Kam Jiong" meaning fear and wanted to do thing fast. I argue back to her saying that she should used the left side card reader and not the right side. You know what she replied. She say " Is I wish, none of your business". After hearing such replied, I was very angry but lucky I am not a person liked to quarrel if not base on the word that she used, a big quarrel will be started.

When back home, I started to do a self reflection and start to remind myself not to use word that will agitated people.

How Much does the Doctor Charge to Fill in Patient Form

There is a form that need the doctor to fill in and certify. The doctor need to do is to delete the Yes/No option and chop a stamp plus signature. It costs me S$25 for the form filling and doctor signature.

Have received the credit card statement account and discovered the important Update on Citibank Bill pay.

So sad , unable to earn point anymore through AXS.

Singapore Dementia Medical Cost Part 1

What is dementia?

Dementia is the medical term used to describe a group of symptoms consisting of memory loss, impaired judgement, disorientation and behavioural changes, which are of sufficient severity to cause loss of function. 

In May 2012, my father had a sudden behaviour changes and sudden low blood pressure due to over dosage of medicine as he had forgotten that he had taken the medicine and retake again. His Systolic measurement is 80mmHg. Immediately we send him to hospital A&E for emergency treatment.

The hospital bill is $99 after government grant.

Apart from the normal laboratory check, the doctor had also conducted the CT scan on brain and discover there were 3 minor old stroke in the brain. The doctor unable to reveal when is the minor stroke occur. The CT scanning is not part of the A&E package and needed to pay separately.

The CT scan cost $224.05




After the confirmation of the causes, my father was refer to see 2 different specialist doctor, 1 is neural for the brain and one is for stroke. The duty doctor had prescribe the blood thinning medicine to my father for prevention of stroke again.

So the total cost is $323.05.

Echocardiogram Report

What type of data was capture in the Echocardiogram report. Basically it check your heart size and function, heart pressure, wall motion, valve structure and other medical term that only medical professional understand. Below is my Echocardiogram Report.

New POSB ATM Card unable to Deposit Cash in ATM Machine

The edge of my old POST ATM card was chipped off and decided to change a new one. This ATM card has been followed me for more than 10 years and it is still functioning well



The changing process in the POSB branch was smooth and fast. The document needed is the NRIC.

I am able to use the card immediately eg withdrawal of cash, top-up ezlink card etc.
However today I intended to deposit cash with the card, after keying my pin number and selected the account number, the ATM machine just hanged there for 2 to 3 mins and later a message appear in the screen, transaction cancelled. Have tried 3 times and result is the same. Then there is a lady using the passbook to deposit cash and the machine able to function well.

Suspect the card problem and proceed to the counter staff to feedback my problem. The counter staff call their IT department and confirm that there is no error in the ATM side and she has also physically see the machine hanged there after I selected the account. She change another new ATM card for me and I try, again it hanged there.

Later she used her own ATM card and the system also hanged there.

It is quite confirmed that there is a technical fault in the ATM machine card reader that link to the backend system. Will try to use other ATM deposit machine to confirm that is no the new card  that causes the problem.

Infected with H1N1 and insurance claim

Last month I started with high fever, body temperature above 38.3 deg, sore throat and cough. The doctor suspect is H1N1 disease and do a throat swab. The sample was send to the laboratory to test and on the next day, it was confirmed infected with H1N1. Doctor advise to rest well and need to see her immediately if the condition get worse.

After 1 week of rest, I had recovered from H1N1 and luckily I had bough a personal accident insurance (PASTAR)  from tenet that allow me to claim for my medical bill.

Master Card Cross Border Fee

I have used the mastercard to pay for my US professional membership fees of US$147. The currency conversion rate is 0.8007 so after the conversion, I need to pay in S$183.59. Beside the currency conversion, I also need to pay an additional of S$4.59 cross border fees which is equivalent to (4.59/183.59) 2.5%.

Are cats allow in HDB flat?

Recently come across a facebook post on the reply from HDB - are Cats allowed in HDB flat?



To confirm that it is true, I have double check in the HDB web site - http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10326p.nsf/w/PetTypesOfPetsAllowed - From the website it stated clearly

"Flat owners are not allowed to keep cats in HDB flats, as it is generally difficult to confine cats within the flat premises. Nuisance caused by cats such as shedding of their fur, defecating/urinating in public areas or even the caterwauling sounds that they make can cause a lot of disturbance, which affects the environment and disrupts neighbourliness in our housing estates."

And indeed it is true and alot of hdb owner are not aware of it.

NTUC Incomeshield Appeal Result

One week later, I received a letter from NTUC Income

After received this letter, I am happy that NTUC Income finally agree on the removal of the exclusion. However the exclusion had made me worry for years. Will it be better that the echocardiogram be done first to confirm the seriousness of the MVP before adding the exclusion in the policy? Is the insurance agent that sell the policy to me did not take the initiative do a good job? Is it no one wanted to bear the cost of medical check ($321/-)? Should the insurance agent pay for my bill as they are earning commission annually from my medical plan?
If I did not appeal then forever I will not be sufficient cover. Quite disappointed with the agent and the insurance company without taking the initiative and give their best services to the customer.

Echocardiogram Check

I went to Lifeline Heart Centre to do my Echocardiogram Check. The counter staff asked me to fill in the form, and do the preparation-  blood pressure check, weight and height check. After all the check, went into the room, take off clothes and lay on the bed. Doctor Jayaram Lingamanaicker came and do the check for me. He is very friendly and would explained the finding to me. I did not tell him what has happened to my heart and he already asked me is it related to mitral valve prolapse (MVP). As in the screen he able to see the valve and blood movement. He also say that the health insurance company will be relundance to insured if they know that the person has mitral valve prolapse.I told him that I am appealing to insurance company on my MVP case. He has done a thorough check on my heart and conclude that my MVP is trivial. To him, he will treat it as normal and no further treatment needed. All my other heart structure, valve , pressure are normal. He written a report on the finding and I send the necessary document to NTUC Income and waiting for their reply on my appeal.

After sending my appeal to NTUC Income,  few days later received below letter from NTUC Income

After received this letter, I have only 10 days left to get my medical report. I neele to search a clinic that able to do the echocardiogram and can get the report fast. I search through internet and most of them are in hospital.

Suddenly I browse through TCC website and found

TCC Heart Check Up for Members by 

Lifeline Heart Centre located at Mt Elizabeth Medical Centre.

So I called and found that they able to do the check. The report  will be available after .the test. The appointment date is next day morning.

When received this letter, I was disappointed and also feeling unfair. Disappointed as the National heart centre that diagnose I have Mitral Valve prolapse trivial had discharged me with no follow-up check-up or appointment needed. No treatment required then why should NTUC income exclude the heart condition in my policy?
Unfair - I am paying the same premium as other policy insurer but cover less, then why should I pay same but get less?

This year I go for medical check-up and the result is very good. So I decide to appeal for my incomeshield with my medical report and wait for their reply.
